What it is

SunCalc is an interactive sun-position calculator. Choose a place, date, and time to see the sun path on a map, along with sunrise, sunset, dawn, dusk, azimuth, altitude, and shadow length.

Why it is selected

It brings time data, angles, and a map into one view, so you do not have to look up sunrise times and sun direction separately. Choosing a location recalculates the relevant values on the same page.

Who it suits

Photographers and filmmakers planning around natural light, plus anyone preparing an outdoor trip, studying daylight, or exploring the sun’s position.

Useful for

  • Checking sunrise, sunset, and sun direction for a location before a shoot or outdoor activity
  • Comparing daylight duration, solar altitude, and object shadows across dates and times

Usage note

In this review, searching for Taipei, Taiwan and choosing Taipei City updated the URL coordinates and timezone to Asia/Taipei. Sunrise, sunset, daylight duration, solar altitude and azimuth, and the shadow length of a one-metre object were recalculated as well. Night and eclipse overlays, project saving, and printing were not tested. For professional surveying or safety-related decisions, confirm the results with an appropriate specialist source.
