Diffchecker
Paste an original and a revised text to see where lines were added, removed, or changed.
Overview
Diffchecker compares two texts side by side, marking removed and added lines with finer highlighting within edits. We completed a basic text comparison in a browser without signing in.
The official text comparison page has two input areas. Paste the original on the left and the revised version on the right, then select “Find difference” to see the result.
Why it is useful
For a small configuration snippet, code excerpt, or copy edit, side-by-side highlighting helps locate changes without switching between two documents. Unchanged lines provide context around the edits.
Good fit for
Developers checking configuration snippets, editors comparing drafts, and anyone checking the scope of a text revision.
Try it when
Our original had three lines: mode=preview, timeout=30, and legacy=true. The revised version kept the first line, changed the second to timeout=60, and replaced the third with retry=3. The result showed two removals and two additions, highlighted the difference between 30 and 60, and kept the unchanged first line on both sides.
Replacing the right input with the exact same text as the left produced “The two texts are identical,” with zero removals and additions. Try a small example like this before comparing your own text.
Before using it
Do not paste secrets, personal data, or internal content that is not approved for external use into an online tool. Use an organization-approved comparison method for sensitive material. We did not test file uploads, saving or sharing, other comparison types, or the desktop app, and did not audit data transmission.
